SERMON NOTES ➔

Christian Burkhardt, Elder & Equipping Pastor

Come and Worship”
Series: The Great Commission, “Apprenticing With Jesus”

Synopsis: This Sunday, Christian taught through Matthew 2, showing how Matthew’s repeated use of quotations from the Old Testament helps us to see Jesus as the continuation and fulfillment of Israel’s story. Christian also highlighted the different ways that people responded to the news of Jesus’ birth, encouraging us to consider how we have responded–and need to continue to respond–to the message and teachings of Jesus:  with hostility, with indifference, or with simple, radical obedience and trust?

Community Group Discussion QUESTIONS:

At Cornerstone, we define a disciple as “a follower of Jesus who is learning from Jesus, trusting Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and helping others do the same.” As we continue through the Gospel of Matthew, discuss these questions in your group and/or for personal reflection throughout the week:

  1. What can I/we learn from Jesus in these verses?

  2. How do these verses call and help me/us to trust Jesus?

  3. What attributes about Jesus are evident in these passages, and how can I/we become more like him?

  4. What are some practical ways I/we can help others to learn from, trust, and become like Jesus?

For weekly group discussion guides related to each sermon, please see our community guides below
